Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued two separate High Wind Warnings for Lubbock and the South Plains.

For the eastern counties of the South Plains, the weather situation will be even more severe with near-zero visibility forecast for the evening commute due to blowing dust. Specifically, this High Wind Warning is in effect for Hall, Childress, Motley, Cottle and Dicken counties.

A Blowing Dust Advisory and a High Wind Warning is also in effect for Lubbock and the central counties of the South Plains.

* WHAT...Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

* WHERE...Childress, Cottle, Dickens, Motley and Hall Counties.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...High winds may move loose debris, damage property and
cause power outages. Travel will be difficult especially for high
profile vehicles.

Warning, northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.

* WHERE...Crosby, Floyd, Hale, Lubbock, Briscoe and Swisher Counties.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...High winds may move loose debris, damage property and
cause power outages. Travel will be difficult especially for high
profile vehicles. Blowing dust could locally reduce visibility to
near zero.
