New David Bowie App Lets Anybody Become ‘Ziggy Stardust’
There are few album covers as iconic as David Bowie‘s ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars.’ EMI has created a fun web app where fans can upload images of themselves or their friends — or say, their pets — in place of Bowie’s face.
This is being done in honor of the remastered, 40th anniversary edition of the classic album, which was released yesterday (June 5). While the album came out four decades ago, this app places it a modern, digital context. You can live vicariously and pretend you are a rock star for a hot minute, then share the results on Facebook.
You can adopt Bowie’s famed alter ego and print it, maybe even frame it for Father’s day. This is so much better and more simplified than, say, going to a theme park and pretending you’re Han Solo from ‘Star Wars’ by posing in a life-sized, cardboard frame and paying $25 for the photo!
Go here to start playing around. And while you’re at it, have a history lesson about the site where the original photo was taken. There’s a plaque marking the location now; it was dedicated earlier this year.
For the photo above, this writer’s English bulldog Higgins had his face superimposed on Bowie’s lithe, uber skinny frame, thus creating Higgy Stardust!
