One Of Elvis Presley’s Jets Is For Sale In The New Mexico Desert
Wanna fly like a king? Or, like THE King?
We honestly had no idea that a piece of Elvis-ana was sitting peacefully, rusting away in the New Mexico desert. And now, it can be yours.
This 60 year old jet has been sitting in the desert near Roswell for many years, with an interesting story to tell. It was once owned by the King Of Rock & Roll Himself, Elvis Aaron Presley.
According to a listing from the auction site, Mecum, Elvis bought the 1962 Lockheed 1329 JetStar just 8 months before he died, and used it to transport himself, the TCB band, and members of his infamous "Memphis Mafia" around the country. It will be going up for auction on January 8th on Kissimmee, Florida.
The features, are kind of insane.
Now THOSE are some red velvet seats!
In the spring of 1977, the jet was sold, later ending up with a Saudi Arabian company. The JetStar was then moved to Roswell International Air Center (ROW) in Roswell, New Mexico, where it’s been stored for decades and resides to this day. The aircraft will require disassembly to be shipped, and coordinating assistance is available. Documentation joining the jet includes a copy of the Aircraft Security Agreement document signed by Elvis Presley, a copy of the Aircraft Bill of Sale and Official FAA Blue Ribbon documents. While the P&W engines and many cockpit components have been removed and no engines or replacement parts will be included with the sale of Elvis’ jet, it serves as an incredible restoration opportunity and a chance to create a unique Elvis exhibit for all the world to enjoy.
In true Elvis fashion, the plane is as gaudy as you'd expect. Some of the features listed include:
The thing that I can't stop thinking about, is that this has just been sitting in Roswell for quite a few years, and is just NOW coming up for auction. If it hadn't just rotted away and stripped like a 78 Firebird on the Slaton Highway, it might fetch a LOT more than what they are thinking, which is close to $100k at auction.
If you don't want to buy this plane, you ain't nothin' but a hound dog.
