It's still the month of love, and here's a way to get more red into your life and the health benefits are amazing.

We talked with Brenda Duby with United Supermarkets about the benefits of the delicious little round orb known as the red raspberry.

One cup is a serving and only has 60 calories, with 8 grams of fiber and 12 grams of carbohydrates. Plus, they are really good for controlling blood sugar. "[They're] loaded with something called flavonoids, which are a powerful antioxidant and help vitamin C do the job it needs to do in your body, it's kind of the helper," Duby told us.

Now we hear the word antioxidant a lot, but do most of us really understand what they are?

Brenda gave us the skinny.

"We get something called free radicals that kind of get loose in your body and they can do damage to our cells," she said. "Those damaged cells then can lead to other problems and make us sick or have other diseases. So to prevent that from happening, you have antioxidants." They basically bind up that oxygen and doesn't let it do any damage in your body.

Duby is a big supporter in food first before supplements and said that it's easy to eat enough raspberries to get enough of your daily required vitamin C, then "think about mixing them with walnuts or almonds and your going to mix a lot of your nutrients" -- especially if you include them with your steel cut oatmeal in the morning.

It's another great way to 'Color Your Basket' for 2016 for a healthier, happier you.
