Lubbock’s Saving Grace Pit Bull Rescue to Hold Painting With a Twist Fundraiser
If you love pit bulls (or just think they deserve the same chance at life any other dog breed does) and painting, this fundraiser is you.
On January 21st, from 5 -7 p.m., Painting With a Twist is hosting a fundraiser for the rescue group Saving Grace Pit Bull Rescue.
It's $35 a seat and you can get seats grouped together in advance if you're going as a group. The painting you'll create is beyond cute - a pit bull with a heart on a colorful background. And the event is BYOB, so feel free to bring a bottle of wine (or whatever your poison is) to enjoy. That includes food, too.
While it's true that Pit Bull attacks are more likely to be fatal, the culprit is not the nature of the breed, but the type of folks who irresponsibly train them. Personally, the only dog I've ever been attacked by was a Chow. And the worst dog bites I've ever seen always seem to be German Shepherds -- dogs that are frequently portrayed as inherently heroic. Dog bites are very preventable, and this website has some great tips.
According to Saving Grace, Pit Bulls have the odds stacked heavily against them:
The Lubbock, TX animal shelter takes in close to 2,000 Pit Bulls each year and euthanizes approximately 80% of Pit Bulls that arrive at the shelter. Overpopulation, abandonment, homelessness, discrimination, and cruelty are all serious issues facing this "breed" in Lubbock and across the nation.
Of course, the best way to help if you can and are ready, is to provide a loving, responsible home to a dog that previously faced abandonment or abuse. Just like people, pups deserve and want a second chance. And even if Pitties aren't a right fit for you, Saving Grace has other breeds as well. Available dogs with complete bios are listed on their website.
