In a press conference that confirmed an additional 10 cases of coronavirus in Lubbock County, Mayor Dan Pope said he's issuing a stay-at-home order beginning midnight on Sunday, March 29th, 2020.

The order lasts until Friday, April 3rd, 2020, and includes meetings outside of the household.

The exceptions to the order are critical needs to maintain households, such as grocery shopping, picking up food and receiving health care. People who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 must stay at home unless they need medical care. Others who are sick must likewise remain at home.

Mayor Pope clarified that people can still go to park as long as they stay at least 6 feet away from others. Essential businesses will remain open, per the mayor's previous declaration of disaster.

Earlier Sunday, University Medical Center issued a change to their visitation rules that bans all visitors except for the following:

  • Adult family members of end of life patients
  • One coach or partner for Family Birth Center patients
  • One parent for pediatric patients (a patient under 17)

Additionally, UMC said that visitors who meet one of the exceptions above also "must be in good health and symptom free."
