Texas Tech Will Have an MVP Commencement Speaker Next Week
Texas Tech's graduation won't look like it normally does, but it's lined up an MVP commencement speaker for the graduates. One of the most well known athletes in sports today and the face of the NFL, Patrick Mahomes.
The reigning Super Bowl MVP and former NFL MVP will be giving back to the place where he made his star and will attempt to inspire the next class of Red Raider graduates who've had to alter their plans greatly in the last few months at a time when they thought they had everything planned out.
Mahomes attended Texas Tech from 2014 to 2016 playing both baseball and football for the Red Raiders. He, Alicia Goldman, a graduate earning her doctorate in fine arts and Keira Eynon, a graduate earning a bachelor's degree in human science, will all address the 2020 class at the Texas Tech University Spring commencement. Those ceremonies will be held virtually via a livestream beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 23rd.
"Patrick’s story and his rise to stardom, both here at Texas Tech and in the NFL, have been a great source of pride for Red Raiders and an inspiration for thousands," said Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec in a press release, "During that rise, Patrick has never wavered from the lessons learned from his family, coaches and his time as a student-athlete at Texas Tech, displaying class, humility and a competitive fire to be the best. We are very pleased and grateful that he will address our May 2020 graduates who have persevered in spite of unique challenges to earn their degrees."
The commencement ceremonies next Saturday, May 23rd, will be for the following colleges and departments: College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources; College of Architecture; College of Arts & Sciences; College of Education; College of Human Sciences; College of Media & Communication; Edward E. Whitacre College of Engineering; Graduate School; Honors College; J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts; Jerry S.
