United Announces Christmas Eve Early Closures, Christmas Day Shutdown in Lubbock
As Lubbock families prepare for Christmas, The United Family is reminding guests to plan ahead for holiday grocery runs. The Texas-based grocery chain announced that all United Family stores will close early at 7:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24th, and will be fully closed on Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25th.

The announcement applies to all United Family locations across Lubbock and the South Plains, including United Supermarkets, Market Street, Albertsons Market, and Amigos.
A Holiday Tradition Focused on Family
According to company leadership, the Christmas closure is a long-standing tradition centered on people--not profits.
“We want to make sure all of our team members have the day off for Christmas,” said Sidney Hopper, President of The United Family. “This tradition of closing on Christmas gives all team members the ability to spend important time with their families and friends.”
In a community like Lubbock, where The United Family employs thousands and operates its corporate headquarters and distribution centers, the move reflects the company’s deep local roots and commitment to its workforce.
When Stores Will Reopen
After Christmas, shoppers can expect business to return to normal quickly. All United Family locations will resume regular operating hours on Friday, December 26th.

The company also confirmed that stores will remain open during normal hours through New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, giving Lubbock residents plenty of time to stock up for holiday gatherings, football watch parties, and New Year celebrations.
A Lubbock-Based Company with a Big Footprint
Founded more than a century ago, The United Family is celebrating its 109th year of operation. Headquartered right here in Lubbock, the company operates 99 retail grocery stores across 54 communities in Texas and New Mexico under four banners: United Supermarkets, Market Street, Amigos, and Albertsons Market.
In addition, The United Family runs 40 convenience stores and multiple support operations, including R.C. Taylor Distributing, USM Manufacturing, and Llano Logistics--all contributing to Lubbock’s economy and job market.
Plan Ahead for a Smooth Holiday
For Lubbock shoppers, the message is simple: take care of last-minute grocery needs before 7:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve, and enjoy Christmas Day knowing store employees across the city are home celebrating with their families.
