United Supermarkets Donates $30,000 to Help Feed Lubbock Kids in Need
A major boost for a vital local nonprofit came Thursday when United Supermarkets announced a $30,000 donation to Food2Kids, helping ensure that children in Lubbock don’t go hungry over the weekend.
Filling the Gap
The donation will directly support the Weekend Snack Bag Program, a signature initiative from Food2Kids designed to fill the critical food gap for children from Friday’s school lunch until Monday morning’s breakfast. These snack bags are often the only source of nutrition for many kids during that time.

Currently, the program serves around 2,000 children from 34 schools across the Lubbock area, including campuses in Lubbock ISD, Frenship ISD, and Lubbock-Cooper ISD.
Tony Crumpton, Chief Merchandising Officer for The United Family, said via press release:
“We are so excited to support this organization, and more specifically the Weekend Snack Bag Program. Food insecurity continues to be a huge problem across our communities, and organizations like Food2Kids are doing the work to close that gap. That’s why we’re proud to support their mission.”
What Does it Cost to Feed Each Kid?
Each snack bag costs about $4 to fill, which adds up to $80 per semester or $160 per year per child. With thousands of children in the Lubbock area facing food insecurity, the cost adds up quickly—but thanks to donors like United Supermarkets, the need is being met more and more.

Food2Kids leaders have expressed a long-term goal of eventually serving students year-round, not just during the school year. That’s a big mission—but with continued support from local businesses and donors, it’s one that’s within reach.
Food2Kids leadership said in a joint statement via press release:
“We are so grateful for The United Family and their generosity. This donation will make an immediate and lasting impact on children in our community who need it the most.”
The $30,000 donation comes at a critical time, as more families are facing economic hardship and schools are working hard to identify students in need.
