West Texas Blizzard Impacting Travel Through Monday Morning
Snow fall amounts measuring from 4 inches in Lubbock to 18 inches in Friona have brought havoc to Texas roadways in the Texas Panhandle and South Plains Sunday.
The National Weather Service in Lubbock has predicted snow accumulations of 5-8 inches through the early morning hours for much of the South Plains.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced the following highway closures due to impassable conditions:
US HWY 82/380 in Terry and Yoakum Counties between Brownfield and Plains
US HWY 380 closed at the Texas/New Mexico State line
US HWY 82 closed at the Texas/New Mexico State line
US HWY 385 in Hockley and Terry Counties between Levelland and Brownfield
Texas 137 closed from US HWY 385 and US HWY 82/380

Several businesses and governmental operations announced closings for Sunday night and Monday with the South Plains experiencing blizzard-like conditions.
The City of Lubbock requires essential personnel should report to work on Monday and the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center and Clinic is closed tomorrow due to the dangerous road conditions in the city.
United Supermarkets closed their locations in the region, including all of the Lubbock and Amarillo stores at 5 p.m. Sunday and will open their store support center and administrative offices at 10 a.m. on Monday. No decision has been made on what time store locations will open on Monday.
