Two Texas Legends Collide in Lubbock: DQ’s New Dr Pepper BBQ Patty Melt
If you grew up in Texas, you know two things: Dr Pepper runs in our veins, and Dairy Queen is called 'Texas' Stop Sign" for a reason. Well, buckle up, Lubbock—because the two icons have teamed up to bring us something we didn’t even know we needed: the Dr Pepper BBQ Patty Melt.

Starting September 1st, participating DQ locations all over the Hub City (and across Texas) will be serving this limited-time monster through mid-October—and yes, you’ll probably want to schedule a cheat day immediately.

What’s Inside the Patty Melt?
It’s built on buttery Texas toast, stacked with a juicy 100% beef patty, melty American cheese, crispy bacon, and not one but TWO golden onion rings. Then comes the kicker: a sweet-and-spicy jalapeño relish topped off with the brand-new Dr Pepper BBQ sauce.

That’s right—your favorite soda has gone barbecue, bringing a tangy-sweet punch that somehow works perfectly with smoky bacon and crunchy onion rings. If you’re from West Texas, you already know it’s about to taste like Friday night lights in a sandwich.
A Word From the Folks at DQ
Lou Romanus, the big boss of the Texas Dairy Queen Operators’ Council, put it best: “The only thing Texans will love more than enjoying a delicious DQ burger, is one topped with our bold, signature Dr Pepper BBQ sauce.” Translation: grab some napkins, it’s gonna get messy—in the best way!
Don’t Forget Dessert
And because no trip to Dairy Queen is complete without a Blizzard, September’s Blizzard of the Month is also debuting: the OREO Reese’s Blizzard Treat. That’s OREO cookie chunks mixed with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, all blended into DQ’s world-famous soft serve. Yeah, your diet’s in trouble.
Why It Matters in Lubbock
Here in Lubbock, DQ has been more than just burgers and ice cream cones—it’s where families stop after football games, where Tech students fuel up on late-night Hunger Busters, and where you can still score a dipped cone that takes you straight back to childhood.
