Lubbock is trying to raise money for its first aquarium, and one way they do that is with a big fundraiser every year called PetFest.

This year will be the third annual PetFest and there's a lot of fun to be had at the event. The weekend-long fun includes a pet pageant, microchipping, adoptions and crafts. The feature attraction this year is the Sea Lion Show.

The weekend full of fun happens April 8th through April 10th, 2022. They have a chicken strip dinner and drink that comes with a VIP version of the sea lion show at 6 p.m. on April 8th, or you can enjoy the regular sea lion show on April 9th and 10th. You can look at those or book them here.

PetFest will also roll out a pet pageant on Saturday, April 9th that includes cats, dogs, exotic farm animals. Registration can be done the day of the event. They will also have pet adoptions Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All the proceeds raised from this event go to and benefit the Lubbock Aquarium Discovery Trail. The goal for the aquarium is to educate and engage the community about marine life. It will also be a 501C3 non-profit and a great place for all ages to enjoy. Their mission is to "bring the ocean to the South Plains through engagement, exploration, education and environmental awareness."

The event will be held at Adventure Park, located at 5110 29th Drive near the Marsha Sharp Freeway and Slide Road. That's right near the proposed aquarium's planned future location. You can find out more information about the long-teased Lubbock Aquarium at their official website, and get more details on PetFest at the Facebook event page.
