It's called cross-contamination. A former ER nurse in Michigan has put a video together to show just how many people forget about cross-contamination when doing something as simple as going to the grocery store.

In the video, Molly Lixey, of Saginaw, Michigan, uses paint to represent germs. She 'shops' and touches toilet paper, then she gets a text message, then her nose itches, then she shops a bit more, then her phone rings. Before long, Lixey shows just how many germs have spread just from touching grocery items and touching her cell phone; and just how many of those germs are on her face.

It's not new if you think about it. Germs are everywhere; but that's not Lixey's point.

"Look, this is called cross-contamination. There's no point in wearing gloves if you're not going to wash your hands every time you touch something," Lixey said.

Lixey says that fear of COVID-19 is making everyone "crazy" and "not acting very smart."

"Don't touch your face. Don't touch your dirty phone," Lixey said.
