‘Playboy’ Goes Back to Its NSFW Roots: Nudity Returns to the Magazine
Rejoice in this Valentine's Day news, Playboy purists: the iconic magazine is bringing back nudity!
In March 2016, the magazine published its first non-nude issue. The publication's March/April 2017 issue, however, will welcome nudity back to its glossy pages when it hits newsstands on February 28, USA TODAY reports.
On Monday, Cooper Hefner, son of magazine founder Hugh Hefner, announced the re-branding on Twitter, writing, "I'll be the first to admit that the way in which the magazine portrayed nudity was dated, but removing it entirely was a mistake."
"Nudity was never the problem because nudity isn't a problem. Today we're taking our identity back and reclaiming who we are," Hefner added.
The new issue will feature an editorial with cover star and March Playmate Elizabeth Elam, an interview with Ghost in the Shell actress Scarlett Johansson and a profile of CNN commentator Van Jones.
The March/April issue will also welcome back two classic features: the "Party Jokes" section and "The Playboy Philosophy," a cultural column last written by Hugh nearly four decades ago.
However, the magazine will remove the tagline "Entertainment for Men" from the cover.
"Playboy will always be a lifestyle brand focused on men’s interests, but as gender roles continue to evolve in society, so will we," Hefner explained in a statement.
