This early in the season it's hard to take too many things away from the 85-60 win over Eastern Illinois, but there were several glaring things to take away from the season opener for Chris Beard and the Texas Tech basketball squad.

Before the game even started, you could tell that the Red Raiders were going to have a great atmosphere with the line basically wrapping around the block to get into the United Super Markets Arena before the doors even opened.

Of course the students wanted to get a peep at the new banners that were dropped that highlighted the Red Raiders first ever Big 12 championship and run to the Final Four.

The crowd also stuck around for the game and provided an atmosphere that felt like a conference game in November which is rare in Lubbock, but a testament to what Chris Beard is building here in Lubbock not only on the court but in the community too.

Just look at this packed student section on November 5th!

As far as the basketball that was played, I'm sure Chris Beard will have plenty to use for the team to learn from, but from what I saw that was a crisp and complete game from Texas Tech and the team looks light years ahead of last seasons squad on the offensive end of the floor. Compared to last years team in game one.

Defensively it wasn't as tight, but the Red Raiders will need to play major minutes before they can settle in their defensive rotations at an elite level.

The individual standouts from game one start with Jahmi'us Ramsey who certainly looks like he can back up all the hype. He was 8-15 from the floor with 19 points and shot 75% from beyond the arc. He added 4 rebounds and some highlights on both ends of the floor. Tonight was a small glimpse into his massive potential.

Three other Red Raiders also hit double figures with Terrance Shannon, TJ Holyfield and Davide Moretti all crossing the magic threshold. Moretti was also 75% from three, Holyfield went 7-8 from the field and Shannon is an electric factory on every play he's involved in. Kyler Edwards led the team in rebounds with 7 and added two blocks to the party.

As a team Texas Tech shot 55% from the field and looked dangerous on offense at times against a less superior opponent, which is all  you can ask for in games like this.

The Red Raiders get back on the floor this Saturday night against Bethune-Cookman in the United Spirit Arena.
