He converted a 62-yard game-winning field goal versus Iowa State and made 15 of his 16 attempts for the year. In his career, Garibay was an 85% field goal kicker across two seasons with multiple game-winners and big moment kicks as a Red Raider. He didn't kick a lot of kicks but was incredibly reliable when he was called upon to do so.

The Dallas Cowboys have had the opposite of reliability since they had Dan Bailey kicking balls for the team. Even Greg Zuerlein has had issues after coming over to Dallas with Special Teams coach John Fassel from the Rams.

The Dallas Cowboys signed Jonathan Garibay to come in to compete for the job in training camp and he's got the leg to win the job. He's also got the pedigree.

The last time the Dallas Cowboys added a Red Raider to the team to kick field goals they won their first Super Bowl in more than a decade. Could history repeat itself with Garibay?

Lin Elliott kicked for the Red Raiders from 1989 to 1991 with good enough numbers to get a call from the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 1992. He was so good as a rookie he got votes for offensive rookie of the year. He started the season 13 for 13 and had 27 touchbacks, both franchise records at the time.

Elliott went on to make 24 field goals as a rookie, a rookie record, and third-most in a season for the Cowboys to that point. His 119 points set a team rookie record while ranking fourth in the NFL and leading all rookies, and most importantly Elliott was part of the Super Bowl XXVII winning team.

Garibay's odds might be long to be the full-time kicker for the Dallas Cowboys, but if they want to catch lightning in a bottle again, the Red Raiders' magical kicking history is strong in Dallas.

You know what to do Jerry.
