Nothing brings Lubbock together like lighting stuff on fire, which prompted the Lubbock Fire Department to share a funny video on their Facebook page as a reminder of what NOT to do while you celebrate the 4th of July this year.

The officers starring in the funny video, which you can watch near the bottom of this story, were identified in the Facebook comments are Phillip and Cody. They both did a bang-up job. One of them plays an America-lovin' fireworks fan, and the other a cop who who has no qualms dropping a $1,000 fine for breaking the City of Lubbock's fireworks ordinance.

It can be pretty tempting not to light off a couple of fireworks in your backyard. We've probably all done it before. But this year it's really important to stick to the rules. Lubbock is dry as hell right now and we don't want to burn down our whole block for a $7 firework. That would be pretty stupid. It's also definitely annoying to hear people pop off fireworks within the city limits while you're trying to sleep for work the next day. Don't be one of those people.

Instead, head outside of the city limits for all of your pyromaniac festivities. Avoid areas with tall grass, and make sure you have some water on hand in case one of those flames gets out of control. The West Texas wind blows like crazy.

One year I was sitting in my car minding my own business when a firework that someone set up blew over and hit me straight in the ear. It was pretty terrifying, and I haven't had the same relationship with fireworks since.

Be safe, and enjoy the 4th of July! And tell a member of the Lubbock Fire Department 'Thank you!' the next time you see them out and about in town. They're the real MVPs!

Check out the video below (you may need to click where it says 'Watch on Facebook'), and be sure to stick around until the end for some bloopers.
