Lubbock SWAT Team Breaches Home; 17-Year-Old Arrested
The Lubbock Police SWAT Team, Lubbock Police Hostage Negotiator Team and the Texas Anti-Gang Center Unit were involved in a standoff in Central Lubbock on Wednesday, May 5th.
KAMC News reports that units responded to the 2000 block of 60th Street at around 8:20 p.m. to serve a Theft of a Firearm warrant. The specific details surrounding this warrant were not yet provided in news reports as of Thursday, May 6th.
It's said that officers were waiting outside of the house for over 3 hours as the suspect, 17-year-old Jake Zachariah Canales refused to leave. So far, it's believed that Canales was just refusing to leave the house, and wasn't threatening anyone else.
After waiting for so long, LPD's SWAT Team breached the home and took Canales into custody. Reports say that Canales was taken into custody without incident following the entry into the home. This all happened at around 11:45pm.
Canales is being charged as an adult, and is currently jailed in the Lubbock County Detention Center on the firearm theft charge.
Additional charges may be pending, at this time, but they have yet to be listed. The firearm theft charge was the only one listed on Canales' jail record as of the writing of this article. Canales' bond also was not yet set.
