Lubbock Meals on Wheels is a great organization serving Lubbock and those who are homebound and unable to cook or go out and get food for themselves. Just about everyone seems to know that Meals on Wheels delivers food throughout the week.

But did you know that Meals on Wheels also helps take care of pets? The Lubbock Meals on Wheels Pet Project is something that was started years ago to help those residents who receive meals also take care of their pets.

Years ago, Meals on Wheels noticed that some people would take the food delivered to them and give it to their dogs. So the organization started providing dog food and even vouchers for dogs to visit the veterinarian.

Back in November 2020, our friends at Three Dog Bakery announced that they would raise funds for the Meals on Wheels Pet Project. Well, they're doing it again for the final few days of May.

Throughout the rest of May, Three Dog Bakery will be taking donations for the Lubbock Meals on Wheels Pet Program. This will help pay for dog food, shots and other needs that owners may have for their dogs.

This is now the fourth year of the partnership between Three Dog Bakery and Lubbock Meals on Wheels. How do you donate? It's really simple. Visit Three Dog Bakery at 5414 98th St. in Lubbock to donate, and to pick up some of the fantastic treats that await your family's pets.

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
