For the twenty-first consecutive year, Lubbock Meals on Wheels is enlisting the help of United Supermarkets, KAMC-TV, and KLBK-TV, for the “Feed a Friend – It’s as Easy as Pie” fundraiser.

This year’s project will take place from November 10-17.  For a $5 donation to Meals on Wheels, participants will receive a coupon for a free Sara Lee pie.  Varieties include: blueberry, homestyle apple, dutch apple, cherry, pumpkin, mince, sweet potato, and peach.

Lubbock Meals on Wheels hopes to raise $50,000 with this fundraiser.  Donations can be made at any Lubbock United Supermarket or at the Lubbock Meals on Wheels’ office, 2304-34th.  The event kicks-off with a pie eating contest at the Amigo’s United Supermarkets location on North University, November 9th.  Local celebrities will participate in the contest as it is aired live on KAMC’s and KLBK’s noon newscast.

Lubbock Meals on Wheels serves hot, nutritious meals to over 600 home-bound  elderly and disabled people each weekday, totaling over 148,000 meals annually.  The organization depends completely on the community for financial support, receives no governmental funding, and is not a United Way funded agency. Over 1100 volunteers and twelve staff members carry out the mission of Lubbock Meals on Wheels.
